Music lover since the age of 10, prefer classical music of the romantic period, but I also love operas, Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Strauss; I also listen to jazz and classical pop, Beatles, Pink Floyd. Large collection of CDs, only few LPs. SACD enthusiastic since 2001. Donizetti: L'elisir d'amore - Bonynge      (4 of 4 found this review helpful)
  January 7, 2015

In most respects I agree with Polly Nomial’s review. I will not repeat the arguments, but in summary for me this opera recording is the most charming incarnation of this masterpiece full of wonderful heartbreaking music, and full of humor and wisdom. Pavarotti in his classic role as a simple-hearted ... more
Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 - Kertesz        (10 of 11 found this review helpful)
  March 14, 2009

This first Kertesz-version of the „New World” with the Vienna Philharmonic is familiar to me for many years. For me it always has been the benchmark for the following recordings. When the young Kertesz made his first recording for Decca, he must have been in a very self-confident, powerful and agile ... more
Tchaikovsky, Grieg: Piano Concertos - Shimizu, Kobayashi          (4 of 4 found this review helpful)
  October 6, 2006

Kazune Shimizu is a pianist whom I only know from his Chopin-Interpreations, also on the Triton-Label. I like these recordings very much, so I had a try with this coupling of these often-recorded romantic "warhorses". And I was not disappointed. Shimizu has a romantic, but a clear and not distending ... more
Strauss: Waltzes - Kreizberg          (7 of 7 found this review helpful)

I highly acclaim this release, because I missed a good DSD-recording of the Strauß-Walzer. Concerning the sound all is said in the above review: One of the best PentaTone-recordings, warm and full, compared for example with the new Schostkowitsch or the Mozart violin concertos, which sound a bit ... more
Mozart: Wind Concertos - Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra          (3 of 4 found this review helpful)
  December 25, 2005

Vivid interpretations of these lovely concertos, also with enough sentiment and warmth. Futhermore I have no severe complaints regarding the sound quality in stereo, maybe the soundstage a bit compact, but full bodied instruments with very natural timbre. IMO highly recommended!- My wishes for the ... more

On my buying list will be: The "Spanish" Music discs with Argenta and de Burgos, Mahler 3 and the great Schubert with Krips. My personal wishlist for the future would include Peer Gynt with Fjeldstad Nutcracker and Petrouchka with Ansermet Romeo and Juliet (Maazel) ... and of course many operas (Aida, Tosca and Boheme with Karajan, Eugen Onegin, ... more

Instead of a new Dvorak cycle (Pentatone has a full cycle of the late symphonies with Kreizberg), I would have preferred Rachmaninow`s symphonies. A full cycle in DSD still is a desideratum. Why not with the Russian National? - Or Tschaikowsy, Swanlake in DSD ! ... more
Pentatone: Remastered Classics (Future releases)
October 20, 2015
Hello Luukas, thank you for your hint. Besides the greatest Freischütz ever and Guilini´s Rigoletto the Verdi operas conducted by Claudio Abbado would also be worth to be re-released in this series (Macbeth, Ballo in maschera, Simone Boccanegra). ... more
