I agree with the two friends here above...
This Music is really beuatifull.
It is no Rock and roll, it's no jazz and it isn't blues. perhaps... a Classical kind of music, but it always keep you awake....

Jean-Jacques Kantorow has done many excellent recordings for BIS. His team - Tapiola Sinfonietta - is light-sounding chamber orchestra - there are only nearly 50 players.

Mahler's Second Symphony is my own favorite: its spiritual message is always topical. The huge score contains off-stage brass band, organ, two soloists, chorus and orchestra. The world premiere performance in Berlin in 1896 was general success.

Compared to Gergiev's earlier account with the Wiener Philharmoniker (Philips), this updated Mariinsky approach is little bit better, but just little.
